Restaurant review in Riu Palace Las Americas @ Cancun
As I mentioned in another post Budget travel to Cancun, we stayed at two All-inclusive hotels during our travel in Cancun. I will first review the restaurants in the first hotel we stayed, Riu Palace Las Americas.
They have a Fusion restaurant, an Italian restaurant, a Japanese restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, a Steakhouse, and buffet. All restaurants are open for dinner, except the Italian one is open for both lunch and dinner. Buffet is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We did not get a chance to go to the Japanese and Mexican restaurant, so I will review the other four we’ve been to.
The Fusion restaurant “Krystal” and the Steakhouse are the two most popular ones in Riu Palace. One time we went to Krystal at 8pm, we waited till 9:30 to get a table there. The next day, we went to the Steakhouse before the opening time, and there was already a long line waiting outside. They don’t accept reservations, it’s all first come, first serve. And even if you have to wait, the waiting time is easy to kill in an AI restaurant. Just go to bar and get a drink! 🙂
1. “Krystal” Fusion restaurant: Highly recommended; Atmosphere was the best among all restaurants; food and service were great!
Lobster entree: Although the lobster portion was not as big as in the Steakhouse, the taste was better.
Dessert: their dessert is a must try!
2. “Black & White” Steakhouse: recommended; large portion, great service, taste was okay. Not friendly for vegetarian though. My husband is a vegetarian, the only thing he can eat there was bread, salad, chips, and dessert. I wanted to try both lobster and steak so I asked whether I can have half of each. The waiter was so nice that he brought me two full-sized dishes. Lobster was fine, but steak was not juicy at all.
Dessert looks pretty, but taste was so so.
3. “Los Arcos” Italian Restaurant. Not recommended, but if you don’t want to have buffet for lunch, this restaurant is the an option. Food was okay, service not so good (we waited 40 minutes for our main dish, and mine was wrong; waited another 10 minutes for the right one without any apology).
4. Buffet. Recommended. My favorite meal in Buffet is their breakfast which includes made-to-order omelette (forgot to take a picture of that). Another nice thing about buffet is its long business hour. When we checked in after 3pm on our first day there, it is the only restaurant that opens during that time for us to grab something to eat. You can also order room service though, which is 24 hours open.
